There are many different types of summer camps available to kids in Las Vegas. They can join a camp focused on art, dance, swimming or even music. Whichever summer camp your child attends, knowing how they can accommodate their hearing loss during their adventures will help ensure they have a great time.
Letโs look at a few ways you can help your child thrive at camp this summer.
Schedule a Hearing Aid Checkup

If itโs been more than six months since your childโs last hearing aid checkup, call Nevada Ear + Sinus Institute to schedule an appointment with one of our specialists. Weโll deep-clean and check the programming on their devices to get them working perfectly before camp starts.
Pack Their Hearing Necessities
Your child probably has a few accessories to keep their hearing aids safe and functioning well, such as a cleaning kit or a waterproof case. Double-check that they have all their accessories packed before they leave.
Research the Camp
Some camps will have staff experienced in accommodating kids with hearing loss. Call any camp youโre considering and verify that they know what to do in case of communication challenges or hearing aid malfunctions. If the camp has no prior experience, give them a list of instructions to help your child if issues arise.
Encourage Hearing Loss Confidence
Hearing loss affects more than 10% of the people in the United States.[1] Despite how prevalent the condition is, itโs not uncommon for kids to feel like theyโre the only ones living with it. That sense of isolation can make your kid reticent to join in with their peers at camp. Try to instill a sense of confidence in your child, leading up to and following their camp.
You can boost your childโs confidence by joining local hearing-loss groups, teaching them about their hearing aids, encouraging them to make friends and exposing them to books and movies featuring children with hearing loss. Your support can make all the difference in how they feel about the condition.
If you have any other concerns about managing your childโs hearing loss, reach out to Nevada Ear + Sinus Institute today. Weโre more than happy to help you and your child navigate this experience.
